Beautiful Sunset - May 2017 Hip Kit

We had amazing weather last week with temperatures that rose into the 30 degrees C.  I am not complaining...I love the respite from the cold weather and this was right up my alley.  We ended up spending some time at the beach.  Kobus took this photo of Stefan with his cellphone and I wanted to scrap it right away.  The Dear Lizzy Lovely Day (Up and Away) paper was perfect for a background paper.  I am entering the for the Color Story Inspiration Case File 234.

Supply list:  Patterned paper:  Dear Lizzy (Lovely Day), Maggie Holmes (Chasing Dreams); Cardstock:  American Craft:  Letter Stickers:  Hip Kit Exclusive,  American Craft; Buttons:  Maggie Holmes; Enamel dots: My Minds Eye; Die cuts:  Dear Lizzy, Hip Kit Exclusives;Foam Stars:  American Craft;  Layered Stickers:  Dear Lizzy; Embroidery Floss:  DMC.

The case file:
This is how I solved this case file:

The Scheme:  All the colours were used.

Evidence:  Flowers (on the embellishments), transportation (hot air balloon), Sun, scallops.

Testimony:  I documented a warm summers evening in the middle of the winter.  My title is about nature.  My journaling is:  "Sunsets are proof that no matter what happens...every day can end beautifully." - Kirsten Butler
Some close ups:
I cut the sun from the same patterned paper as the background and then used variegated DMC embroidery thread for the stitching.

Some layering and the gorgeous Hip Kit Exclusive alpha.

 I adore this collection.

The foam stars are the foam "beautiful" word is from the Shimelle Thickers by American Craft.

Sunsets are proof that no matter what happens...every day can end beautifully.

Beautiful - Hip Kits

I recently saw the most beautiful page made by Bea Valint...using a cut file that she designed and that is available for download on her blog.  I wanted to use this cut file to showcase a photo of Nadia.  Here is the page:

Supply list:  Patterned paper:  Marbled background (Hip Kit Exclusive), Maggie Holmes Chasing Dreams (mint), Paige Evans Oh my Heart (pink); Cardstock:  American Craft; Letter Stickers:  Hip Kit Exclusives; Chipboard: Maggie Holmes, Flowers:  Prima; Enamel dots:  Hip Kit Exclusives; Embroidery Floss: DMC; Embossing Paste: Studio 490; Embossing Powder: Tsukineko; Stencil: Prima; Other: Silhouette Cameo (Bea Valint cut file)

Some close ups:
I cut the cut file and then backed the flowers and the soft colours.

I used a Prima stencil and some Studio 490 embossing paste en then sprinkled gold embossing powder over it while wet and heat embossed the flowers.

I love how the gold comes out behind the cut file. The only embellishing I used is some flowers and enamel dots.

This stunning alpha is also a Hip Kit Exclusive and the Audrey Hepburn quote was perfect to complete the page.

Love all the gold accents.

Thank you for visiting my blog today ♥♥

Inspiration pages for Celebr8 Daydreams

Hallo there.  I had the wonderful opportunity to play with Celebr8's new Daydreams collection.  Thank you to Dennis and Erin Bruton...the owners of Celebr8 for this opportunity. I created three inspiration pages for the launch.

This isn't a colour palette I would normally choose and I loved the challenge.  I brought some contrast into the collection by adding various shades of blue.

My first page:
This was my first page.  I matted all the patterned papers on dark blue cardstock.  The photo and the journaling block was matted with white and dark blue cardstock and then popped up on foam.  I stamped the dandelions onto the background white cardstock with Paradise Teal Archival Ink.  The chipboard dandelion was painted with gesso and then I applied Star Dust stickles to it.  The dragonfly was painted blue and then I applied Twilight Stickles to it.  I used one of the manufacturers strips on the strip at the top of the page.

Photo size and cutting list:
  1.  The photo is 4x4 inch.
  2.  The journaling card is 4x3 inch.
  3.  Circle:  I used a soup bowl...but it is approximately 7 inches in diameter and cut from te papr with the multicoloured dandelions.
  4. I stitched the circle before attaching it to the layout.
  5. The back layer is the chevron paper and is cut to 10 x 4 inches.
  6. The second layer is the orange stripes paper and cut to 10 x 4 inches.
  7. The third layer just underneath the photo is the wordy multi coloured paper and cut to 5 x 8 inches.
  8. The strips at the top is simply one of the manufacturers strips and the same paper as the circle and cut to 0,75 x 10,5 inches.
  9. The tag was cut from the back of the pink multi coloured wordy paper.  It is from the peachy block with the dandelions on it.
  10. Matt all your paper and attach.
  11. I cut apart the large title to be able to use the Cherish, Love and Dream on it's own.  I heat embossed the chippie in orange and red to create some contrast.

My second page:
I challenged myself to use this collection for a boy page and the colours actually perfectly compliment the colours in the photo.  Here I matted the photo and "fly as high as you can" on white and navy blue cardstock.  The "DREAM" chippie was heat embossed with dark blue embossing powder. I chosse the papers that had more the orange and purple tones for this page and outlined each of the patterned papers.  I also liked how it looked on the light kraft cardstock.

Photo size and cutting list:
  1. The photo is a normal jumbo 4 x 6 inch and matted on white and navy blue.
  2. The journaling block is 4 x 3 inches and matted on white and navy blue.
  3. The back layer is the multi coloured wordy paper and cut to 9 x 5 inches and outlined in black.
  4. The orange wordy papr is just a narrow strip of 5 x 2 inches and tucked in behind the air balloons paper  Also outline.
  5. The layer directly behind the photo is the air balloons paper cut to 7 x 9 inches...I outlined it and stitched around the entire piece before I adhered it to the page.
  6. The orange strips paper is two pieces of 1.75 inches by 3 inches and tucked in behind the photo and the journaling block.  Just use your cutting mat to make sure it lines up on both sides.
  7. The orange banner at the top left is 3 x 1,75 inch.
  8. The hot air balloon shaker box was filled with some sequins but you can use beads or whatever you have in your stash.  Before I adhered it all and added the acetate I heat embossed it in white.
  9. The resin hot air balloon was treated with some stickles and then toned down with All Purpose ink.
  10. The sentiments is from the odds and ends pack and the buttons from the embellishments pack.
  11. I used the orange manufacturers strip on this page.
  12. I pierced holes around the edges of the light kraft paper and stitched with variegated DMC thread.
My third page:

This page was sort of a last moment thing and I love how soft it turned out.  I used the dandelion stamp after the page was completed...Please don't make the same mistake.  I used the frame around the "Building memories and having Fun" chippie.  I heat embossed the frame and the dandelion with dark blue embossing powder.  I used a doily from my stash and the two dandelion chippies were treated to Star Dust Stickles.  The "Love" title got the same treatment as the "Cherish" title.  Heat embossing in orange and red.

Photo size and cutting list:
  1. The photo is  4 x 6 photo cut down to 4 x 4,75 inches and matted on white and navy blue cardstock.
  2. The bottom layer is the paper with the multi coloured dandelions and cut to 9 x 5 inches and a fish tail cut into the top.
  3. The second la;yer is from the 6x6 chevron paper and cut to 6 inches by 2 inches to be tucked in behind the multi coloured wordy paper.
  4. The third layer is the multi coloured wordy paper and cut to 7 x 5,5 inches
  5. The fourth layer is the orange stripes paper and cut to 6 x 4 inches.
  6. The doily is tucked above the mini chevron paper and under the multi coloured wordy paper.
  7. I outlined all my patterned papers with black pen.
  8. I cut my cardstock down to mount the layout on one of the patterned papers and pierced holes and stitched around it.
  9. The bottom layer is 2 inches from the right side and 1,25 inches from the bottom.
  10. I used Bo Bunny flowers from my stash.

Lovely - a gift for Nadia

Hallo there.  A while ago Nadia showed me a page that she pinned on Pinterest and she said that she would love a layout of her and Wynand that looked something like this page.  Her birthday was in May and I made her this page.  I very seldom go the shabby chic style and I am very happy with the result.

Supply list:  Patterned papers:  Basic Grey, Maggie Holmes (Chasing dreams); Cardstock:  American Craft;  Letter stickers:  Title (Pink Paislee), Wood Veneer:  Lawn Fawn (Hearts), Prima (Clock); Chipboard:  Simple Stories (Frame); Envelope: Maya Road; Flowers:  Prima; Metal bookplate: Tim Holtz; Paper Clip:  American Craft; Pearls: Prima; Buttons: Stash; Pins: Stash; Embroidery Floss: DMC; Lace:  Prima; Glitter: Finnabair; Ink: Distress Ink (Tattered Rose); Stencil: Prima (Poppies), Tim Holtz (Doily); Teture Paste: Daler Rowney.

Here is the page that was scrap lifted.  I don't know who the original artist was but it was pinned from the Maya Road website:

Some close ups:
I coloured the Heidi Swapp title with pink gelato.

My signature hand stitching and some pretty flowers stenciled onto the black and white paper with white texture paste.

I gesso'd the metal book plate and I love how it toned the metal down.

The perfect quote for the two lovebirds.  The hearts were covered in glossy accents and then sprinkled with pink glitter.

I stenciled some tattered rose distress ink  onto the background paper to bring some more pink into it.

The envelope was also white washed with gesso and the two circles coloured with pink gelato.

This layout is now framed and hanging on the wall of Wynand and Nadia's home.  Thank you for visiting my blog...I hope you found some inspiration.  ♥♥

Shine Bright - May 2017 Hip Kit

Hi there.  I absolutely adore everything about the May Hip Kit.  I have fallen head over heals in love with the Shimelle Little by Little collection.  This collection contains my absolute favourite colours.  I made this page of Leane using the kit.  The only paper I added from another kit is the black and white stripes paper designed by Kim Watson,  the turquoise paper is from the February kit.  Here is my page:

Supplies used:  Patterned paper:  Shimelle (Little by Little); Celebr8 (Chit Chat); Amy Tan (On a Whim); Maggie Holmes (Chasing Dreams); Cardstock:  American Craft; Wood Veneer title:  Hip Kit Exclusive, Studio Calico (hearts); Chipboard:  Blue Fern Studio (Dashwood Bouquet); Flowers; Prima; Rubber charm: Maggie Holmes; Puffy Heart: Heidi Swapp; Die cuts:  Maggie Holmes; Tag: Pretty Little Studio; Embroidery Floss: DMC; Other Mediums:  Neocolor11 to colour the chipbord; Embossing Powder: Tsukineko (clear), Lindy's (midnight teal).

I used a sketch by my favourite sketch designer Laura Whitaker:
Some close ups:

Some yummy paper layers beneath the photo.  The photo is popped up on foam.

I fussy cut a full sheet of the Shimelle flowers and here I used some of them.  The Prima flowers were toned down with some gesso.

Another little cluster on the left side of the page with the title.  I coloured the Blue Fern chippy with Neocolor 11 crayons and then sealed it with clear embossing powder.

I do adore the hand stitching...but then you know that!  I added a tag and a label to the top of the photo.

I love how it all turned out.

Thank you for visiting my blog today...I hope you were inspired ♥♥

Camp Fire - CSI 232 - Happy Camper

Hi there,  I am playing along with Color Story Inspiration Case File 232.  The Scene of this Case File reminded me of the two weeks vacation we had next to the river at the Keurbooms Forever Resort in December last I scrapped a photo from that time.  Here it is;

Supplies used:  Patterned papers:  My Minds Eye (Happy Camper); Cardstock:  American Craft; Letter Stickers:  American Craft Thickers; Wood Veneer: My Minds Eye (Happy Camper);  Chipboard:  Blue Fern Studio's (Natural Sprigs); Brads:  My Minds Eye (Happy Camper); Felt tree:  Jillibean Soup; Enamel dots: My Minds Eye, Teresa Collins; Die cuts:  My Minds Eye (Happy Camper); Embroidery Floss:  DMC; Ink:  Distress Ink (Shabby Shutters); Stencil: Celebr8 (splatter); Embossing powder:  Lindy's (Reindeer Moss); Other:  Silhouette Cameo (tags); Mesh: Stash.

The case file:
This is how I solved it:

Scheme:  All 5 colours used

Evidence:  Wood accents, mesh, tree, foliage, mushroom, stitching, label, enamel dots.

Testimony:  I used the inspiration word camp in my title "Camp Fire"and my journaling is about the outdoors:  "Summertime memories...Sitting in the sun, playing at the beach, making new friends, sitting around a campfire roasting marshmallows and telling stories, staying up late gazing at the stars, just being lazy without a care in the worldSummertime memoriesthey stay with you for a lifetime

I used this sketch by Laura Whitaker:

Some close ups:
I inked my background with a splatter stencil and Distress Ink in Shabby Shutters.  I cut out the patterns that goes with the Scheme and stitched each chevron.

We loved sitting around that big old fire every evening.  I added the feathers directly to my photo.

I cut some basic tags with the Silhouette and layered it over a circle and some chipboard foilage.

I added some mesh that has been sitting in my stash for ages as well as the felt tree and the mushroom.

I always find it a joy when I can use up older stash like this alphabet letters.

A little caravan and my journaling.

Thank you for visiting my blog...I do hope you decide to play along with these challenges ♥♥

Together - Hip Kit February kit - Scrapbook Studio Sketch

Hallo there.  I couldn't resist playing along with Cariena's  June/July sketch challenge at Scrapbook Studio.  I very seldom create double page layouts and this one just spoke to me...maybe it was the fussy cutting :)  The idea for the side stitched panels is a lift of a page by Elizabeth Cooper. Here is my page:
Supply list:   Patterned papers:  Maggie Holmes (Chasing Dreams), Crate (Oasis); Cardstock:  American Craft:  Chipboard:  Maggie Holmes (Chasing Dreams); Puffy Hearts:  Heidi Swapp; Flowers:  Prima; Foil hearts:  Pink Fresh Studio; Die cuts:  Maggie Holmes (Chasing Dreams); Embroidery Floss: DMC; Ink:  Tattered Rose Distress Ink; Stencil:  Tim Holtz (Doily); Border Punch:  Martha Stewart.

Cariena's Sketch:

Some close ups:
I love the combination of fussy cut flowers and Prima flowers.

I broke the white cardstock with some Distress Ink in Tattered Rose and a Tim Holtz stencil.  The cute hearts die cut is from the Maggie Holmes Chasing Dreams ephemera pack.

These days creating a two pager is a challenge for me...but I really love how this one turned out.  The pink phrases were cut from a patterned paper and popped up on foam.

The chipboard and die cut elements are all from the Maggie Holmes Chasing Dreams collection.

Most of my hand stitching is hidden behind the photos...but I still like the texture it adds to the page.

Many of the Prima blooms have been part of my stash for the longest time.  It feels good to finally find the perfect spots for them.

The die cut heart layered with a Heidi Swapp puffy heart.

I do believe these photos are perfect for this sketch.

Thank you for visiting my blog today...I do hope you leave inspired to create ♥♥
